Financial Goals for the next 12 weeks

Between Corona Virus and writing the series about emergency funds, I forgot to post Q2 goals. Honestly, I considered just skipping this quarter but I had to remind myself that it is better to set goals late than not set them at all. Goals help to keep me motivated to take action and improve our finances.

If circumstances (ie covid-19) lead to the failure of these goals, I’m okay with that. I’m just doing the best I can to keep moving towards the things I care about and want to accomplish.

What is your strategy for these difficult times?

Keep pursuing goals even though the progress is slower or flat?

Suspending goals until life returns to normal?

Woman…I’m just trying to keep myself fed and watered?

I don’t think that there is a right or wrong answer to those first two questions. Advocating for what works for you has long been my mantra. I’ve done each of those strategies at different times in my life.

At any rate, here are our new 12 week goals:

Two new income sources

I’ve been talking for a while about getting setup with a couple new little income sources but have been dragging my feet. I’d really like to start doing personal finance coaching on both Coach.me (daily habit coaching) and Fiverr so I plan to work towards those. I’m not going to set a dollar $$$ amount goal since we still have so many unknowns. It’s usually better to focus on taking action anyway and just focus on what is within my personal control.

Three Financial Challenges

Shorter term no-spend challenges will likely make a comeback in our household this quarter. I also want to bring back the “no spend after 2pm” challenge!!!!!!!!!!

One dine out and one dine in per month

This is carried forward from last month. We will probably keep this goal going forward since it seems to be the sweet spot between saving money, eating healthier by eating mostly home-cooked food and enjoying some tasty treats that we enjoy.

Continue to meet each Sunday for our “weekly household meeting”

Our meetings have changed a little bit lately. We have been taking a hiatus from budgeting. Using our cash management spreadsheet and reviewing spending each week has been sufficient since we haven’t been spending much with social distancing.

Finish reading two finance related books

I’ve started The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason and Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and want to finish these in the next 12 weeks. What are you reading?

Hope you all are well and hope things are starting to return to normal!
